Playlist
I was asked for a playlist of music that was influential in the growth of my musical interests. That was a daunting request–how could I narrow down years of music listening to one play list? There was so much that I wanted to share, but there was no way to put it into one list. What should I include? Or exclude? After much thought, I decided that a reasonable approach was to select particular musicians, and include a couple of songs from each–so if the songs resonated, they could provide the first step of a musical path to follow.
Below is the list–if you have comments, please let me know! (Based on how iTunes works, artists are sorted by first name. Thus, for example, Elton John is in the E’s and not the J’s. Also, classical music is not sorted and arranged as intuitively as popular music.)
Shown is the cover of The Yes Album, by Yes, which includes two of my all-time favorite songs: The Clap, in which Steve Howe sounds like he has six hands with which to play his guitar, and Starship Trooper, which I still enjoy at high volume.
